Our Pastor

Pastor Andrew Hunt, Jr., CPA, M.Div.

According to Pastor Hunt, he received the greatest honor of his life on July 20, 2018 when he was elected to be the 7th pastor of Liberty Baptist Church of Chicago. Born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, Pastor Hunt graduated cum laude from Morehouse College in 1994, with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. Throughout his Morehouse matriculation, he was on the honor roll, the dean’s list, and the national dean’s. In 1997, he obtained the University of Illinois Certified Public Accountant certificate, and in June 2001, he received a Master of Divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago.

With more than 20 years of pastoral experience, Pastor Hunt has a pastoral commitment to “love everybody” and is focused on ministry and outreach to Chicago’s South Side community. He started his pastoral journey in October 2001 as the pastor of Tabernacle M.B. Church in Chicago, and after six years at Tabernacle—and much prayer—he believed God wanted him to go in a different direction. He resigned from the pastorate of Tabernacle M.B. church in August 2007.

On September 6, 2007, Transformations Fellowship Bible Class was born. The bible class was held at the Spoken Word Café on 48th King Drive with Pastor Hunt affirming on the first day that, “we are not a church.” Despite his affirmation, Transformations Church held its first worship service in November 2007 and began to hold service once a month until April 2008, when services began to be held twice a month. Transformations began holding weekly Sunday services on October 5, 2008. Then, on September 5, 2010, under Pastor Hunt’s leadership, God guided Transformations from a 28-member charter church meeting in a café to a full congregation in a sanctuary, as the church moved into its new home at 11032 South Indiana in Chicago—under his leadership they purchased a church in less than two years. While at the helm of Transformations, he co-founded Righteous Baller Sports to help youth escape from crime and violence in the city of Chicago, and during Black History Month 2012, Transformations was featured on the Judge Mathis Show along with Salem Baptist Church of Chicago as an example of African American worship.

In addition to his Pastoral duties, Pastor Hunt is currently an auditor with the U.S. Department of Justice and is responsible for auditing bankruptcy filings for the United States Trustee Program. He is also an entrepreneur and is president of an accounting practice he started in 1997. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and commendations from some of the country’s largest not-for-profit and for-profit corporations where he held management positions including Deloitte & Touche LLP, Catholic Charities, Chicago Public Schools, the McDonald’s Corporation, Follett Bookstores, and the U. S. Postal Service, where he served as the inspector general.
